The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. on Dorsey Drive in San Antonio's South Side. Joss and his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, had returned to their former residence to retrieve mail and belongings after a house fire earlier that year. During this visit, they encountered neighbor Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, 56, who allegedly directed homophobic slurs at the couple before opening fire. Joss was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts by authorities .
Ceja fled the scene but was apprehended shortly thereafter. He has been charged with murder, and the investigation is ongoing .

Born on December 22, 1965, in San Antonio, Joss was of Comanche and White Mountain Apache descent. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of John Redcorn in King of the Hill, a role he assumed in the show's second season. Beyond this, he appeared as Chief Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation and had roles in films such as True Grit and The Magnificent Seven .
Joss was set to reprise his role as John Redcorn in the upcoming King of the Hill revival on Hulu, scheduled to premiere in August 2025. He had recently participated in a promotional panel at the ATX TV Festival .
Personal Struggles
Earlier in 2025, Joss suffered the loss of his home and three dogs in a fire believed to have started from a barbecue grill used for warmth.
