Emmy-winning actor Tom Wilkinson, best known for his role in the 1997 film The Full Monty and its 2023 sequel TV series, has passed away at the age of 75. The news of his death was confirmed by the BBC, stating that Wilkinson died at his home in the UK on Saturday. The cause of death has not been reported.



In The Full Monty, Wilkinson portrayed Gerald, an unemployed steelworker who joins a striptease dance group to make ends meet. Remarkably, he reprised this role 26 years after the film's debut in Hulu's sequel series.


Throughout his illustrious career, Wilkinson made significant contributions to various TV shows. Notably, he won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie in 2008 for his compelling portrayal of Benjamin Franklin in HBO's John Adams. His exceptional talent also earned him three other Emmy nominations for his roles in Normal (2003), Recount (2008), and The Kennedys (2011). Wilkinson's versatile presence extended to other series such as Belgravia, Watership Down, Prime Suspect, and more.


Wilkinson's cinematic achievements extended to several acclaimed films, securing two Oscar nominations. One nomination recognized his poignant portrayal of Matt Fowler, the husband of Sissy Spacek's character, in the 2002 film In the Bedroom. The second nomination came for his compelling role as attorney Arthur Edens in the 2008 film Michael Clayton, alongside George Clooney.
