In a heartfelt statement, they expressed, "Carl was more than just an actor; he was an extraordinary soul who touched countless lives. His impact spans across film, television, the arts, and sports, resonating globally and across generations. To us, he was not only a cherished brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend."

Weathers gained widespread recognition for portraying the memorable character Apollo Creed alongside Sylvester Stallone in the initial four Rocky movies. Additionally, his presence was felt in the Creed films, where his footage added depth to the narrative alongside Michael B Jordan.

Transitioning from a successful college football career in the 1960s to professional retirement in the early 70s, Weathers embarked on a journey into acting, initially in blaxploitation cinema with notable appearances in films like Bucktown and Friday Foster.

Reflecting on his passion for acting in a 2023 interview, Weathers remarked, "Once I stepped onto the stage, experiencing the laughter at the good lines and the applause at the end, I was hooked. It's an infectious feeling. Once that bug bites you, it's hard to let go."

In a 2020 interview, he opened up about the challenges of portraying a boxer on screen, revealing, "It was inevitable to avoid taking a few hits during filming. There were moments where we deliberately went at each other. I was always cautious, worried that a well-placed punch might inadvertently cause harm. I believe Sly felt the same way."
